Movado Watch Repair & Maintenance

Movado Watch Repair & Maintenance

It is recommended having your Movado timepieces inspected by a professional every three to five years.

The timepiece’s mechanical movement require this periodic maintenance to ensure optimum performance. Just remember to ask the watch specialist to give your Movado watch a check-up with every battery replacement. This will reduce the friction on which the mechanisms turn. If your watch “dries out” due to lack of consistent lubrication and oil, it could cause your Movado to work improperly, or stop working altogether.

Historical Info

Movado was started in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, in 1881 by 19-year-old Achille Ditesheim. The name Movado means “always in motion” in the language of Esperanto. In fact, many of Movado’s watch lines and individual watches are named in Esperanto. Getting off the ground with only six employees, Ditesheim relentlessly pursued a never-ending commitment to quality and innovation, and his work paid off when Movado won many prestigious awards at the Universal Exhibitions in Paris in 1900, including a silver medal. Today, Movado has garnered more than 200 international awards for innovative watch designs and technological time-keeping advancements.

What Makes a Movado Watch Unique

Movado is known around the world for its Museum Watch, which features a single gold dot representing the sun at high noon and has hands that suggest the movement of the earth. The original Museum Watch was the first wristwatch to be shown at the Museum of Modern Art and was designed by an American, Nathan George Horwitt, in 1947.
